Join Janie Robinson tiptoeing through the tulips in her latest Toronto Sun travel story and posted in over 45 newspaper site across Canada on Postmedia Network From Holland, with love! Iconic dutch tulips bloom on both sides of the ocean. Gorgeous tulips like these are a part of our proud Canadian history. The Dutch sent 100,000 tulip bulbs to Ottawa in the fall of 1945, in appreciation of Canada's role in liberating Holland and protecting the royal family in the Second World War. Those Dutch tulips, and the thousands of bulbs sent every year from the Dutch Royal Family and the people of the Netherlands, are the over one million beautiful blossoms lining the Tulip Route during the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa-Gatineau, on this year from May 8 to 18.
- This year's Canadian Tulip Festival marks a special 70th anniversary commemoration of the Liberation and the Tulip Legacy, 1945 - 2015.
